A brief history
The Latin American Association (LAA) was founded in 1972, and since that time, has been the largest provider of services to the Latino population in metropolitan Atlanta. Funded in part by the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta since 1979, the Latin American Association was awarded the Outstanding Non-Profit Management Award of the Metropolitan Atlanta Community Foundation in 1989. In 1990, the Association opened its first satellite office in the North Atlanta county of Gwinnett, to address the needs of the growing Latino population. In 1993, the Association successfully completed a $1.8 million capital campaign that allowed the LAA to purchase, renovate, and furnish a modern 16,000 square foot facility intended to house the Association’s growing community programs. Within four years, the LAA had operations in four offices in the Metro Atlanta area.
